Giving all of your energy to your career and not focusing on yourself is a very common situation. We have to remember to take care of ourselves first and foremost. Or else we will not be able to produce the results we desire in our career. Here are a few things we can control to better our situation. STAYING WELL HYDRATED. According to the CDC only 22% of American adults consume the recommended eight glasses of water a day! Dehydration leads to several different problems including headaches, dizziness, sleepiness, decreased skin elasticity, rapid heartbeat, confusion, irritability, and fainting. Try to drink eight glasses of water a day. An easy way to do this is to get a large water bottle or Hydroflask. I recommend the 32 ounce size. drink two full bottles a day and you've hit your daily goal! Another thing we can do is making sure that we are GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP. I know it sounds simple and obvious but 1 in 3 adults dont get enough sleep(7-9 hours) according to the CDC. Sleeping less than seven hours per day is associated with an increased risk of developing chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and frequent mental distress. To help improve your sleeping patterns focus on setting a sleep schedule to adhere to, go to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday. Turn off TV's, laptops, and cell phone's to avoid unnatural blue light. The next step we can take to help us have good energy is to EAT HEALTHY OVERALL. You don't have to go on a big crazy diet! Make small meaningful changes in your everyday life. Avoid fast foods(1 in 4 people eat fast food daily), heavily processed foods, and pre made frozen meals(Americans eat 31% more packaged food than fresh food). These foods are lacking in nutrients and provide "empty" calories. Instead try eating nutrient dense whole foods! Benefits of eating whole foods include lower rates of heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. The last and perhaps most important thing I recommend is GETTING/STAYING ACTIVE! Even if it's just walking, running, or hiking. A body in motion is a healthy body! Challenge yourself by learning new skills such as functional training, boxing, kickboxing, MMA(UFC), and Martial Arts(American Kenpo Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Judo). We can help improve your fitness level, teach you self defense skills and functional training which in turn will increase your self confidence and overall quality of life!
