Are you allowing stress to run your life?
Created by Benjamin Acosta
Everyone has stress in there lives, but how do you deal with it? Or do you have a way to deal with it? Stress can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, heart problems, cancer, lung disease and early aging to name a few. All of these things branch out and affect us in every aspect of our lives, our relationships, friendships, careers and self belief! Stress can impair our ability to control our emotions, which can affect our relationships at home and at work. Researchers at the University of Miami found that when people find themselves in stressful situations, they are likely to consume 40 percent more food than normal. Which of course leads to weight gain. It physically damages the heart by stress hormones increasing your heart rate and constricting your blood vessels. This forces your heart to work harder, and increases your blood pressure. If you have a genetic predisposition to a certain disease stress can give them the go ahead! Chronic stress contributes significantly to premature aging; Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, discovered that stress shortens telomeres(structures on the end of chromosomes) so that new cells can’t grow as quickly. Which in turn leads to signs of aging such as wrinkles, poor eyesight, and weak muscles. Breathing Exercises can be very beneficial to releasing stress. Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to your body. Those things that happen when you are stressed, such as increased heart rate, fast breathing, and high blood pressure, all decrease as you breathe deeply to relax. There are several different breathing techniques out there, so find one that works for you and get to it! Meditation can be extremely helpful in alleviating stress. Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well being and your overall health. There are several different forms of meditation including mindful meditation, guided meditation, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga to name a few.
